MDRRMO Conducted WASAR Operations Training

The Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) Operations Training Class 12-01 was conducted by the Municipal Disaster Risk  Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) on 20-24 August 2012 with the objectives to:

a.    Train   the   participants to become competent rescuers in water-related incidents and render appropriate life-saving assistance to the victims.
 
b.    Develop self confidence,   teamwork and camaraderie among the participants who maybe working together in water search and rescue operations.  

c.    Foster close coordination and develop a spirit of volunteerism and sense of civic consciousness between and among government workers, private group/individuals and the citizenry especially during periods of disaster or calamity.

d.    Ensure the high state of preparedness of manpower assets in the municipality on water search and rescue.

This kind of training is prerequisite required by Main Office of the Civil Defense, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City   on the issuance of a Rigid Hull Rescue Boat for the local MDRRMO to strengthen their capabilities to cope up with water-related natural disasters.

Dr. Rogelio L. Quitola, Head of DILG Cluster 3 for 5th and 6th District, Pangasinan was the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the Opening Ceremony on August 20, 2012 at the RBE Stadium, Poblacion, Rosales, Pangasinan.  He stressed out the timely conduct not only for the season of natural disaster but also resilient action of every community for disaster preparedness and climate change adaptation.

Director Melchito M. Castro, Regional Director, Office of the Civil Defense Regional Center 1 and Chairperson, Region 1 Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council was the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the Field Closing Exercises held in the afternoon of August 24, 2012 at the Eco-Tourism Hills, specifically at the Acop Dam. Dir. Castro   appreciated such kind of training in a conducive environment. He bowed to support another batch of WASAR Training.

Mayor Ricardo V. Revita of the Municipality of Rosales,  a Master of Public Administration and a be-medalled retired Police Officer emphasized the need of every Barangay, specially along the Agno River, to organize and equip their own Disaster Response Team particularly WASAR. He encouraged the Barangay Council to use the 70% of their Calamity Fund for Disaster Preparedness in terms of training and procurement of disaster response equipments and accessories.

Lt. Florencio L. Velo (Ret), the designated MDRRMO is the Training Officer. He made sure that the training standards is obtained and all participants have satisfied the training requirements, performed proper physical exercises which develop strength and stamina and most importantly on disciple and character build up of rescuers.  

The next batch WASAR ctw RBOM trainees must be not more than 40 years of age, physically fit, know how to swim, must respect, obey and follow instructions of the Training Committee/Instructors, able to endure extraneous training under extreme weather condition and willing to undergo in-housed training where every participants must be in the training grounds for the duration of the training.
